Other Methods Ltd functions as a blog and a source for various small applications.

The company founder is Andrew Grove - see People.

The aim of the site is to try and add value by active development of tools and review articles.

Much of my work has involved the development of 'applications' - database tools and financial models - for users looking at financial issues: faced with the collection or analysis of financial or operational data, or with strategic decisions with a big financial impact. Getting to grips with the web technologies required to build this site exercised much the same practical problem solving and design skills as those involved in my work, but with an excitingly different product at the end.

Learning about the web technologies required to build this site has been engrossing, and the learning curve will stay steep for a while yet. I will continue to develop the site as time permits, and when I get the opportunity to work on more apps. Btw, when I refer to apps here, I mean active web content as opposed to downloadable apps. The code for most of the content is PHP, which requires parsing of data to a server. Also, the database for the portal access control is on a remote server.

Apart from the technology element, the other field of interest which I focus on in the development of apps and blog articles is economic. As I write this (April 2013), we are (hopefully) on the way out of the GFC (Global Financial Crisis). This has stimulated my interest in the economy of the UK and the globe, and reading both the press and books by various economists.

I intend to use the portal for various database applications, although they have not been designed as yet. If you would like to register in the meantime, please do so by submitting a registration request.
